The Garden Market Committee is looking forward to a bigger-than-ever Glenmore Garden Market in 2007.
The Garden Market Committee anticipates a grant from the Art for Better
Communities program for our Garden Lecture event. We are very excited
about this as it will help Charlotte Carey in her quest for special and
unique speakers. The theme this year for the lectures will be "The Art
of Gardening." Charlotte is sure to find some very interesting speakers
for us.
Members & Friends Plants, Bedding Plants, and, of course, the Tea Time Tent will all return to the Market.
Container Gardens
Our Container Garden booth will take the place of the Garden Gifts booth. We will be collecting unusual and unique items to plant gardens in. From work boots to bottomless chairs and everything in between. Please let Barbara Holt (865-475-2153) or

know if you are interested in being part of this project.
We will also need your extra annuals and perennials together with potting soil, decorative rocks / stones or anything decorative that will do in a container with plants to add interest. Containers should be of a manageable size.
Striped Liriope (Monkey Grass) and other plants of that type ire especially requested for the container project.
We will be doing a hypertufa workshop to make containers for this booth. Sherry Mercer will be our leader. The workshop is scheduled for March 21. Please call 865-397-9050 or email

Members and Friends Plants
The Members and Friends Plant booth would welcome any plants, bulbs, potting soil, or pots/containers of any size or shape for this year's Garden Market.
If you wish to donate cut flowers for display to attract people to the booth they would also be welcome. If someone wishes to purchase these cut flowers we would gladly accommodate then.
Please ID your donations with your name and type of plant, color, height, size, etc. If you have any planting suggestions, eg. prefers shade; moist ground, good ground cover, etc. it would be of great help. Daylilies & iris are always welcome, many people ask about color so please mark them if possible.
Donations can be dropped off at Glenmore or my house two weeks before May 5 but please notify me, Helen LaShier, at 865-397-7307 or

about any plants you leave so I can keep them watered and in good health for the sale. [Helen] As you look through seed catalogs and garden books this Spring, be thinking about the plants you will be dividing in a few months. Please take this good advice from Gaylord Wirth on preparing the plants for the Members & Friends booth at the Glenmore Garden Market Sale.
I would like to encourage you to divide plants you have as they come up this Spring. You might even have shrubs that have rooted off-sets that are easy to pot. Remember to stick a label in the pot with plant name, color, and approximate height to help us answer questions the day of the sale.
Plants that are fresh dug at time of sale day dry out quickly and are difficult to sell. Please help us to realize the most income from the plants you bring. Good plants and a variety of plants will give the public a good reason to come and shop our Market every year."
Helen LaShier and our Garden Market customers will be most pleased that you heeded Gaylord's advice.
Tea Time Tent
The Tea Time Tent has developed a great menu this year. You are sure to enjoy the Garden Chicken they are planning to prepare along with their signature strawberry shortcake. New this year will be chocolate covered strawberries, my mouth is watering just thinking about them. The creative duo of Virginia Lowery and Sherry Mercer do a wonderful job transforming a tent into a lovely tea room.
Site Decoration
We are looking for someone and some things to decorate the grounds for Market Day. We envision wheelbarrows filled with plants and tools of the trade used in creative ways, and maybe a birdhouse or two. If we could borrow your wheelbarrow for a day to two for,the event hat would be wonderful. Or if by chance, you have a wheelbarrow that is not in good working order that you would like to donate for our "Art in the Garden" object to be given away, please call Janet McLane (865-397-9050) I will be glad to pick it up.
Of course we the Flower Lady and the beautiful flower arrangements will be back.
The Herb Lady was not able to be at the Market in 2006; however she plans to join us this year with lots of herbs and herb information and goodies.
Vendor forms are starting to come in and we look forward to signing up at least thirty this year. If you know of someone who sells plants or garden-related items (yard art, supplies, twig trellis, etc.) please share their name and contact information with Sharon Redden at 865-932-4193.
Please look over the Volunteer Form and find something that interests you and be part of this wonderful Glenmore event. Our volunteers and guests have a great time on Market Day.
Looking forward to seeing you on Market Day.
